Tackle Box Adventure is a 3D-modelled animated diorama created in Maya and textured with Adobe Substance Painter. In this project, I aimed to artfully re-create the cherished and heartwarming memories I hold from the delightful fishing trips I embarked on with my family.

For the main model of the tackle box, I decided to use a lower poly count to give it a low poly look while keeping the shape easily identifiable.

For the textures, I decided to go with a painterly approach.

In my first iteration of the texture maps, I decided to hand-paint them ontop of the UV map. This gave me greater control over areas such as brush strokes but also made it more consistent throughout the model.

Another way to create the painterly effect was done in Substance Painter.

First I added a spots texture and than applied a blur slope. The blur slope feature was the most crucial part of this process as it is what gave the paint stroke dab effect. The image on the right is the texture without the filter.

To further develop this technique I then combined the filtering technique then drawing on top directly. This made it easier to add specific details and strokes as I did when making the texture for the pier. Compared to my previous technique this was much easier as I could see the changes happening in real time, compared to just constantly switching back and forth.
